Last Tuesday, while the wife and I were taking my mother to the airport after a weekend visit, an inattentive jackhole decided to rear-end us on the highway. Mom and I are fine, but Cristin's back injury (from the last accident) has been aggravated. On the upside, it doesn't seem to be anywhere near as extensive as the last time around. On the downside, any further damage when you already have a ruptured disc ain't what you'd call a good thing. Her pain and discomfort are currently being managed to a reasonable degree, and she is scheduled to have another steroid injection to help with the tissue inflamation at the nerve root. As an added bonus, everyone is licensed and insured this time around. If Kiera had been in the car, I honestly don't know whether I would be in police custody or not.
Cristin is also currently in Georgia this week, attending (as a presenter!) a conference put on by the Center for Disease Control--as a direct result of her recent performance at a similar conference in San Diego. The director of the Strategic National Stockpile thinks she's quite the badass, it seems. Oh, and her recent promotion and raise just kicked in, yesterday. The upside, of course, is that her career continues to flourish to an astounding degree. The downside is that I'm on my own with the kid for the week, we both miss her terribly, and I'm pretty damn worried about her spine.
Work on my end is going well. I've been given plenty of encouragement by the boss and boss-boss to apply for the second Auditor position that will be posted shortly. The endorsement of the current Auditor certainly helps, too. The snag is that it will be an externally listed position, so I expect plenty of competition from the outside. HR will undoubtedly also have many nefarious influences on the selection process, but all told, I figure the odds of winning the spot are significantly better than even.
Oh, and on top of all that--Fuck You, Mister Daylight-Savings-Time-Inventor! Right in the ear!
